Changing Your Default Apps

You may have accidentally clicked ‘Set as Default App’ from the pesky notifications on your apps asking to be the default app for the filetype. You never meant to hit it accept but you somehow did and now you find yourself stuck with it as the default app.

Fear not, here’s quick guide on how to change the default app back to your original settings!

For Windows users, there are two methods you can use:
First method

  1. Open File Explorer and select any file with the filetype you want to change the default app to.
  2. Right click the file and select Open with > Choose another app.
  3. A pop-up will appear allowing you to select a different app.
  4. Click Always to set it to be the default app for the specific filetype.

Second method

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Navigate to Apps > Default Apps.
  3. You can search for the filetype directly on the search bar or select the app that supports the filetype you want to change.
  4. Select the app and a pop-up will appear allowing you change the default app.
  5. Select app and press Set default.

For macOS users:

  1. Open Finder and select any file with the filetype you want to change the default app to.
  2. Right click the file and select Get Info.
  3. A window should pop up with the default settings.
  4. Expand the section named Open with:.
  5. Select the app you want it to be opened with.
  6. Select Change All... to set it as the default for the filetype.

For other operating systems such as Linux or BSD based systems, the method to change the default apps will be somewhere in-between macOS and Windows users. All other systems have slight variances, but the general gist will be the same.

Hope this helps!
